Barbara Jean Deveau

Barbara Joan (Laurence) Deveau, 80, of 33 Third Street, Apt. 2, Newport, RI, died on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at RI Hospital, Providence, RI. She was the wife of the late Robert John Deveau.Born in Newport, RI, on January 22, 1932, she was the daughter of the late William Gordon and the late Neveu (Graziella) Lawrence. Barbara was an employee of the former Liggetts in Middletown and also worked at the LaForge in Newport before becoming an assembler at the former General Electric Company. Mrs. Deveau wintered in Naples, Florida with her husband. In addition to her love of fishing, she enjoyed panning for gold and other precious stones.She is survived by her sons, Michael J. Deveau of East Greenwich, RI and Eric James Deveau of Canton, GA, her daughters Barbara Joan McConnell of Largo, FL, and Melisse Jean Altenbrand of Johnston, RI, eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.She was the mother of the late Robert John Deveau, Jr. and sister of the late Faith G. Unger, Jacqueline Ann Wheeler and William Gordon Lawrence. Calling hours will be held on, Thursday, July 26, 2012, from 5-8pm, in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Her funeral will be held on Friday, July 27, 2012, at 9:00am, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery, Brown's Lane, Middletown.
