Barbara L. Angel

Barbara L. (Lewis) Angel, 91, of Middletown died Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at St. Clare Home, Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late William K. Angel.Born on February 13, 1924 in Newport, RI, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Louise (Whitman) Lewis. Mrs. Angel was first and foremost a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved cooking and baking especially for the holidays. In her youth, she worked as a milkmaid for Newport Creamery. For 21 years she was a medical receptionist at the Aquidneck Medical Center. She was a founding member of the Newport Friends of Jazz. She was an avid Jazz fan. She was a dedicated fan of the Boston Braves/ Atlanta Braves. She was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church.She is survived by her children, Robert Angel of Portsmouth, RI, Steven Angel of Cumberland, RI, Roy Angel of Westford, MA, and Janet Angel of Middletown, RI, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, her brother William H. Lewis Jr. of Glen Cove, Long Island, NY and her sister Beryl Johnson of Middletown, RI. The family would like to thank the staff members at Atria Aquidneck Place and St. Clare Home for the amazing care she received when she was there.A memorial service will be held on Friday November 27, 2015 at 11am in the First Presbyterian ChurchBurial will follow in Island Cemetery Annex.In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to the St. Clare Home, 309 Spring Street, Newport, RI 02840, or to the Visiting Nurse Services of Newport Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
