Barbara W. Matose

Barbara W. Matose, 87, of Eustis Avenue, Newport, died peacefully at home on Thursday, November 15, 2007.She was the wife of the late Frank S. Matose.Born in New York, NY on January 4, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Kate Clarke Flynne.She resided in Newport most of her life and was a graduate of Rogers High School.Following World War II, Mrs. Matose enjoyed working for many years as bookkeeper at the former Armed Services Y.M.C.A. at Washington Square in Newport and later at the Newport County Y.M.C.A. in Middletown before retiring in 1985. She was an avid Bridge player and animal lover.She is survived by her daughter, Katherine P. Roberts of Derby, CT. She is also survived by many dear friends and neighbors as well as the dedicated caregivers who made her last days easier.A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 8, 2007 at 11:30am in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Robert Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.
