Bella Mary Sears

Bella M. Sears 89, of Girard Avenue, Newport, RI, formerly of Donna Avenue, Portsmouth, RI, died Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Newport Hospital. She was the wife of the late Albert J. Sears, and sibling of her late sisters, Marie Cunningham, Azora Perry, and Angelina Gray.Born in Newport, RI on November 7, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Antone and Adelaide (Vierra) Morris. She worked at the torpedo station on Goat Island in her younger days.She is survived by her children, Thomas J. Sears of Newport, RI, Kathryn Sherman of Jacksonville, FL, Diane M. Sears of Portsmouth, RI, and Sharon L. Welch, and husband Eugene Welch of Middletown, RI , four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.Bella was an energetic, fun loving, wonderful person, who loved swimming at Eastons beach, yodeling with the weekly band, and playing with her grandchildren. She really enjoyed life to the fullest. She will be sadly missed by everyone.Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 21, 2012 from 6-9 PM in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 10 am in St. Lucy Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown, RI.Burial will be private.
