Benjamin Burke

Benjamin Burke, age 77, of Portsmouth died Friday, February 8, 2013 at home in Portsmouth. Benjamin was born July 9, 1935 in Buffalo, NY. He is the son of the late Benjamin and the late Dolores (Jones) Burks. He married Kimberly (Moriarty) Burke. Benjamin was a US Navy veteran of Korea and Vietnam, reaching the rank of Senior Chief. His career continued after the Navy with work for the Department of Defense as a materials handler. He enjoyed reading, watching sports and playing chess. He was a passionate supporter of Project New Hope, a non profit that assists vets and their families with coping skills.He is survived by his wife: Kimberly (Moriarty) Burke, his children, Daryl Burke of Portsmouth, RI, Keith Brickman of New York, NY, Annette Thompson of Tampa, FL, Veronica Samuel of MD, Krystal Semas, and Michael Semas; three sisters: Carmenita Brown of Buffalo, NY, Charida Tolerson of Buffalo, NY, Cobena Pener of Springboro, OH and one brother: Rodney Burks of Ackron, NY; Calling hours will be Thursday, February 14 from 4:00-7:00pm at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.The funeral will be held 11:00am on Friday, February 15 at Graceway Church, 215 Forest Ave, Middletown, RI.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Project New Hope, PO Box 91, Leicester, MA 01524.
