Benjamin "Daniel" Noetzel II, 70, of Martens Road, Portsmouth, RI, died at home surrounded by his adoring family.He was the husband of Miriam "Mim" (Haapala) Noetzel for 51 years.Born in Hancock, MI on September 4, 1942, he was the son of the late Robert Charles Noetzel and Elizabeth (Richard) Noetzel.Dan proudly served in the US Navy from 1961-1965 stationed in Newport, RI during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He worked at Raytheon in Portsmouth, RI from 1966-2004 and also in various restaurants in Newport, RI during the 1970's. Dan enjoyed restoring cars, maintaining his house and beautiful lawn, watching NASCAR, his gadgets ("there must be a remote for that!), and especially being a good friend and helping anyone in need. His true love was his wife and daughters. He would beam with pride when his family was together, often just sitting, watching the chaos with love and admiration in his eyes."We would like to express with heartfelt sincerity our gratitude to Dr. Scott Keigwin, we will always remember how you cared for Dad with kindness and compassion during his illness. Also, to the Hospice nurses that not only cared for our Dad, but for us as well."In addition to his wife, Mim, he is survived by his three daughters, Kim (Joe) Souza of Portsmouth, RI, Tammy Noetzel of Newport, RI and Pamela Andrews of Newport, RI; his siblings, Roberta Noetzel of Chassell, MI, James (Barbara) Noetzel of Hancock, MI, and Charles (Rachael) Noetzel of Akron, OH; sisters-in-law, Bessie Haapala of Hancock, MI and Marjorie (Jack) Turner of Pinellas Park, FL; grandchildren, Timothy McKenna, Jared McKenna, Cristalee Andrews, Jessica Andrews, Samantha Silvia, Ryan Dawson, Pamela Souza and Philip Souza; great-grandchildren, Destiney, Sophia, Madison, Kierra, Izsabella, Natalie, Aubrey, Ryan, Jr. and Amaya. He was the son-in-law of the late Bror and Marjorie Haapala, brother of the late Robert Noetzel, and brother-in-law of the late Harold and Cheryl Haapala.Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013 from 5-8 pm in Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.His funeral will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 10:30 am in Calvary United Methodist Church, 200 Turner Road, Middletown, RI.In lieu of flowers, Dan's family asks that memorial donations be made to Hospice of Visiting Nurse Services of Newport Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871, or in the name of Timothy McKenna at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, Spinal Cord Injury Unit, 125 Nashua Street, Boston, MA 02114.
