Portsmouth, RI - Benjamin Gomes, Jr., 75, of 142 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI, died Friday, October 12, 2007 at home. He was the husband of Olinda Anselmo Gomes. Born in Middletown, RI on October 15, 1931, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Georgianna Mello Gomes.Mr. Gomes served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked as a auto mechanic for Barry Pontiac for 20 years. He was a 1951 graduate of Rogers High School. He was a member of the VFW in Common Fence Point. Ben loved making model planes, trains, playing with his train sets and working on cars. Besides his wife of 53 years, he is survived by his children Debra A. Peixoto and her husband Bert and Laurie L. Sacrey, his grandsons Michael S. Peixoto and Matthew K. Sacrey all of Portsmouth, RI, his brothers George Gomes of Casa Grande, AZ, Thomas Gomes of Conifer, CO, and Charles Gomes of Deming, NM, and his sister Louise DiSclafani of Westwood, NJ. His funeral will be held on Monday, October 15, 2007, at 9:00 am from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2007, from 2-4 and 7-9 in the funeral home.
