Bernard Donald Mazza, SR. Newport, RI - Bernard Donald Mazza, Sr., 88, of 111 Washington Street, Newport, RI, formerly of East Bowery Street, Newport, RI, died Saturday, March 11, 2006, at the Village House Nursing Home, Newport, RI. He was the husband of the late Elva May Stark Mazza. Born in Newport, RI, on February 21, 1918, he was the son of the late Joseph and Angelina Caesario Mazza.Mr. Mazza served in the United States Army during World War II, where he received the Good Conduct Medal, the Commendation Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon. Bernard worked for 50 years as an electrician for the Local Union #99 IBEW, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Newport Knights of Columbus, the Retiress Club #99 IBW and the Point Association. Mr. Mazza was a Communicant of St. Marys Catholic Church. Bernard was an avid boater and football fan and loved model building. He is survived by five sons Bernard D. Mazza Jr., of Newport, RI, Michael Joseph Mazza of Newport, RI, John F. Mazza of East Greenwich, RI, Paul A. Mazza of Newport, RI, and Peter J. Mazza of Bristol, RI, two daughters Carol A. Kendrick of Modesto, CA, Marsha L. Leonard of Portsmouth, RI, and Nancy M. Busch of West Warwick, RI, eighteen grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at 8:00 a.m. from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. in St. Marys Church, Spring Street, Newport. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, March 14, 2006, from 4-7 p.m. in the Memorial Funeral Home.
