Newport, RI - Bernice Edith Siney Kleven, 83, of Nina Lynette Home, 87 Washington Street, Newport, formerly of Middletown, RI, died Thursday, December 2, 2004, of complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis at Newport Hospital Newport, RI.She was the wife of the late Harold Stanley Kleven. Born in Waterbury, CT on June 2, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Edith Dickinson Siney. Mrs. Kleven was a 1939 graduate of Rogers High School. Bernice was employed as a dental assistant for the late Dr. Osmer Bacon and the late Dr. Jay Rice Moody. She was a member of St. Georges Episcopal Church and a member of the Altar Guild for many years and was also a volunteer in the Thrift and Gift Shop. She had also been a Sunday School Teacher before her marriage. Bernice was a member of the Mosaic Club, she served as treasurer and participated in the ?Bank on Books? reading program at Sheffield School. She was a member of the Newport Art Museum and the Edward King House Senior Center. She was a past member of the Executive Board of Episcopal Church Women of the Diocese of Rhode Island. Bernice was a dedicated knitter, enjoyed working crossword puzzles and an avid reader. She is survived by two sons Lawrence P. Kleven and his wife Peggy of Attleboro, MA, and Robert H. Kleven and his wife Karin of Tacoma, WA, her daughter Pauline Kleven Apjohn and her husband Tom of Poultney, VT, her sister Pauline Siney Ward and her husband Douglas of Middletown, RI, six grandchildren Alice Apjohn Sfier of Woonsocket, RI, Amy Apjohn Lannon and T. Eric Apjohn both of Benson, VT, Kimberly Kleven of Tampa, FL, Tracy Kleven of Boston, MA, and Koos Kleven of Tacoma, WA, two great granddaughters and five great grandsons.A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2004, at 11:00AM, in St. Georges Episcopal, 14 Rhode Island Avenue, Newport. Burial will be Private. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Georges Church Altar Guild Memorial Fund, 14 Rhode Island Avenue, Newport, RI 02840 or to the Visiting Nurse Service of Newport Bristol Countie, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
