Bessie Johnson, age 83, of Newport died Thursday, January 29, 2015 at the Village House Nursing Home in Newport, RI. Mrs. Johnson was born August 3, 1931 in Newport, RI. She is the daughter of the late Chester and the late Naomi (Gray) Riley. She was married to the late Sherwood Johnson. She is survived by her children, Naomi Pitts of Suitland MD, Sherwood Johnson Jr. and his wife Marie of Newport RI, Janice Johnson of Newport RI, Eric Johnson and his wife Nancy of Newport RI, her grandchildren Michelle Pitts of Suitland MD, Aaron Johnson of Newport RI and her great-grandson Makiye Pitts of Suitland MD. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday February 4, 2015 from 10-12pm, in the Memorial funeral Home 375 Broadway in Newport.
