Betty C. Schlesinger

Betty B. B.C. Beard Schlesinger of 52 Valley Lane, Portsmouth, RI, formerly of Virginia, died Thursday, May 22, 2008 in Charlton Memorial Hospital, Fall River, MA. She was the wife of Howard L. Schlesinger. Born in Washington, DC on February 19, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Wilmer C. and Callie May DeHart Beard. Mrs. Schlesinger worked as a payroll manager for many years for the Laura Ashley Co. in Mahwah, NJ as well as the Arlington, VA Public School System. Mrs. Schlesinger volunteered for the READ Center in Richmond, VA as well as Hospice of Northern Virginia and the Arlington County Suicide Hotline. She volunteered much of her time to the Potter League for Animals. She was a member of the Aquidneck Land Trust.Besides her husband, she leaves her children, Kenneth R. Herrity of Milpitas, CA, John A. Schlesinger of Portsmouth, RI and Stephanie H. DiCola of Stafford, VA. She also leaves her sister, Barbara Plumber of Warrington, VA. She was the grandmother of Robert S. DiCola, Jr. of Woodbridge, VA, Nicholas L. DiCola of Stafford, VA, and Allison J. Schlesinger of Portsmouth, RI and great grandmother of Savannah B. DiCola and Linkin E. DiCola of Stafford, VA. Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at 1:30 pm in the Middletown Baptist Church, 1818 West Main Road, Middletown, RI.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Visiting Nurse Services of Newport and Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
