Betty Mello

August 1, 1943 — September 15, 2024

Betty Jane Mello, a beloved wife, mother, and nana, passed away on September 15, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Portsmouth, RI. Betty was born in Huntsville, TN, on August 1, 1943, and spent her life spreading love and joy to all who knew her.

Betty and her husband of 64 years, Jesse Mello, were inseparable and she was a devoted mother to her children, Debbie, Julie (Jess), Teresa (Michael), and Jesse (Christine). She also leaves behind a legacy of kindness and warmth to her grandchildren, Christopher, Phillip, Tiffany, JR, Stephanie, Courtney, Kyle, Tyler, Aidan and Nolan, and her 13 great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by her siblings, Walter, Gene, Benjamin, Raymond, Blanche, and Marion.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Taylor and Clara Pine, and her siblings, Richard, Bobby, and Margaret.

Throughout her life, Betty spread love through simple gestures, like meeting friends for coffee at McDonald's on Tuesdays and Fridays, having a list of birthdays to make sure she had cakes for her friends, and cooking for her best friend, Jacek Michalak. Her love for adventure extended to sneaking off to the casino with her husband and embarking on leisurely rides. An avid bowler, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Betty found joy in the simple things in life, with her beloved cat Mia and dog Ally always by her side.

Betty worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for over 25 years, dedicating herself to caring for others at Forest Farm, Atria, private home care and Grand Islander. Her compassionate nature and dedication to her work left a lasting impact on all those she cared for.

Betty's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff and caregivers of Visiting Nurses Home & Hospice, especially, Sue Conley and Amy Hill for their exceptional care and kindness throughout Betty's short illness.

Betty will be remembered for her kind heart, infectious laughter, and unwavering love for her family. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
