Middletown, RI - Beverly Barry Vandermyde, 78, died Saturday, May 3, 2008 at home. She was the wife of the late Leonard John Vandermyde. Born in Newport, RI, on September 28, 1929, she was the daughter of the late William and Emma Willis Barry.Mrs. Vandermyde had worked as a medical secretary for the Visiting Nurse Service of Newport for 20 years, retiring in 1991. Mrs. Vandermyde was a 1947 graduate of Rogers High School. She was a member of the United Baptist Church for over 60 years. She was a pianist and director for the cherub choir for many years as well as sang in the church choir. Mrs. Vandermyde was the pianist for the Dawn Tones of the Middletown Senior Center and played at several nursing homes in the area with that group. She is survived by her son, David Vandermyde of Fall River, MA , three daughters Karen Vandermyde of Portsmouth, RI, Gail Fitzpatrick of Wickford, RI, and Terri Martland of Newport, RI, her brother Robert Barry of Newport, RI, and five grandchildren, Melinda, Rebecca, and Kevin Martland, and Makayla and Alicia Vandermyde. She is preceded in death by her son, Robert Vandermyde and her granddaughter, Katelyn Vandermyde.Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at 10:00 am, in the Hambly Funeral Home, Brickhouse, 30 Red Cross Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held Tuesday, May 6, 2008, from 4-8pm in the Hambly Funeral Home.
