Mrs. Birdie E. Robinson Lawrence, 59, of 6 Donald Drive, Middletown, RI the daughter of John Johnson and Julia Johnson Robinson-Vanall, was born on August 22, 1944 in Anderson, South Carolina and departed this life on July 20, 2004. Birdie attended schools in Norfolk, Virginia and Alameda Community College. She was an avid gardener, a great bowler and tennis player. She liked to visit quaint small places. She was a member of Community Baptist Church in Newport, where she had once served on the Womens Everready Society. She had been an employee of Sears, and the Navy Exchange as a customer service supervisor until 1987. Even in her frail condition she always took time to show kindness to others, share a kind word or act of giving or in her prayers. She never wavered in her convictions and believes. Three brothers, Maurice, Willie, and Bennie Robinson and a sister Mary Francis Nichols predecease Birdie. She leaves to cherish her memory husband Robert B. Lawrence Jr., sons Christopher Lawrence of Plainville, Ma. Kenneth Lawrence and his wife Manijey of Norfolk. She leaves a sister Doris Robinson of Springfield, Ma. and brother Eugene Robinson and his wife Carolina of Killean, TX, two grandchildren, four nieces, four nephews and two great neices, and a host of loving family and friends. Services will take place at Community Baptist Church , Dr. Marcus Wheatland Boulevard, Newport, RI on July 26, 2004 . The wake will be from 9am to 10 am. Funeral services at 10a.m with Reverend Dr. Vincent Thompson leading the services. Burial will follow at Middletown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Marion J. Brown Visitation Committee of Community Baptist Church.
