Birna Carvalho

Birna Carvalho- 65, of Moitoza Lane, Portsmouth, died peacefully at home on Thursday, March 13, 2008 with her family at her side.She was the wife of Alfred Carvalho. They had been married for 45 years.Born in Iceland on August 12, 1942, she was the daughter of Helga Kristin Magnusdottir and the late Hedin Vilhjalmsson.Mrs. Carvalho was a sales associate with J.C. Penney for 20 years before retiring. She was a communicant of St. Anthony Church in Portsmouth, a former volunteer for Meals on Wheels and she had attended The Healing Co-Op in Middletown. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she immeasurably enjoyed Sunday family gatherings.In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by three children, Robert Carvalho of North Kingstown, RI, David Carvalho of Middletown, RI and Disa Goodridge of Barrington, RI, five grandchildren, David Carvalho, Kelci Carvalho, Brianna Goodridge, Benjamin Goodridge and Rebecca Goodridge, two brothers, Orn Sigurdsson and Karl Sigurdsson, both of Iceland, and two sisters, Ragnhildur Rosa Hedinsdottir and Ingibjorg Ogmundsdottir, both of Iceland. She was the grandmother of the late Kristin Carvalho.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 17, 2008 at 10 am in St. Anthony Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth.
