Bjarne Marten Pedersen

Sgt. Bjarne Marten Pedersen, Rhode Island State Police, ret., 70, of Portsmouth, RI, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2009 at Newport Hospital.He was the husband of Joan B. Ostapow Pedersen. Born in Amityville, NY on February 12, 1939, he was the son of the late Bjarne and Hilda Marcor Pedersen.Mr. Pedersen was a RI State Trooper for 25 years before retiring in 1992.He was a member of the St. Peters Lutheran Church and one of the oldest members of the Tiverton Rod Gun Club. He also enjoyed wood carving and animals.In addition to his wife of 40 years, he is survived by his children, David Pedersen and Michael Pedersen, both of Portsmouth, RI, and Deborah Guimond of Swansea, MA; four grandchildren, Ryan Guimond, Cody Guimond, Mikaela Pedersen and Niklas Pedersen; and two sisters, Klara Louise Sinnott of Portsmouth, RI and Karen Travers of Stone Ridge, NY.The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 10:00 am at St. Peters Lutheran Church, 525 Broadway, Newport, RI. Burial will take place in Trinity Cemetery in Portsmouth.Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 from 4-8 pm in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Portsmouth Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Wagon Fund, PO Box 806, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
