Tiverton, RI ? Ben Quicho, 71, of Tiverton, died Thursday, August 2, 2007 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, RI. He was the husband of Luz Venegas Quicho for 47 years.Born in Orion Bataan, Philippines Islands, son of Maria Juana Quicho and the late Victorio I. Quicho.Ben was a college graduate from Eastern University, Manila in the Philippine Islands. He joined the US Navy in 1959 and retired in 1979. He served on special duty during the Cuban Crisis and had served the admirals at the Navy War College in Newport, RI. He also served as special service to the White House as a personal chef under Presidents John F. Kennedy, Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford. While in Newport at the Navy War College Presidential House, he served celebrity?s like Jackie Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor, Henry Kissinger and the Ford family, as well as during the 1976 Tall Ships and he served the King and Queen of England. He also catered the movie set of ?The Great Gatsby? and was chef at the Canfield House and White Horse Tavern in Newport, RI. After retiring from the Navy, he continued his education at Johnson Wales University and later retiring as Chef Instructor specializing in Garde Mang for the university. He also was a food stylist, creating food for Princess House Appetizer Cookbook and various catalogs brochures and featured in Bon Apetit Magazine.Ben was also the chef for the Fall River Country Club from 1986 to 1988. He was a member of the Filipino-American Club of Newport and Warwick, RI. He was also a member of the Portsmouth Eureka Lodge as a 33 degree Mason as well as Member of the American Culinary Federation. He was also a volunteer to the Veteran?s Affair?s functions, Boy Scouts of American and Chef for St. Theresa?s dinner functions when they were building their first church. Ben loved watching the Red Sox and Patriots, played tennis and softball but he enjoyed gardening as well as fishing with his sons and daughter the most and feeding his grandchildren.Including his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Lucille G. Quicho Cabral, his sons Noel V. Quicho and Kenneth W. Quicho, his son-in-law Louis M. Cabral, his grandsons Daniel L. Cabral and Ryan M. Cabral, his granddaughter Allison K. Quicho, his daughter in-law Michelle Quicho and her son Peter Montigny. He also leaves many brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews across the US and Philippine Islands. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 7, 2007, at 9:00 am from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Theresa Church, 265 Stafford Road, Tiverton. Burial will be private.Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 6, 2007, from 6-9 in the funeral home.
