Bonnie Muriel Panaggio

Newport, RI - Bonnie Muriel Panaggio, 40, of 20 Webster Street, Newport, RI, died Sunday, March 26, 2006 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. Born in Newport, RI, on December 13, 1965, she was the daughter of the late John and Muriel Murray Panaggio. Bonnie had various and unique interests. During her teen years she volunteered her time at the Norman Bird Sanctuary, performed at local clubs in an all girl rock band, and played for the Newport County Youth Hockey Association?s first all girl hockey team. She also played in the Middletown High School band where she graduated in 1983 and was voted Class ?individual?. She was a graduate of the University Of Rhode Island where she earned a degree in Journalism and was a writer for the school newspaper ?The Good 5c Cigar?. During this time she also interned at Channel 6 in Providence. Working for the Chart House Restaurant chain, Bonnie moved to Maui in 1989 where she began her freelance writing career contributing to various local publications including ?The Lahaina News.? She worked as a production assistant for Paramount Pictures developing a television pilot, as an extra for other productions and was a volunteer for the Maui Film Festival. Returning to Rhode Island she earned a Film Degree from RI College. In the fall of 1997 she was accepted into an intensive film making workshop at NYU Film School where she studied all aspects of filmmaking culminating in the production of a short film. Bonnie was an art collector of limited edition serigraphs including the works of Erte, Vargas and Peter Max. She was also passionate about travel, visiting 18 countries including Cuba, Egypt, Argentina, Turkey and pilgrimages to the Holy Land in 1995 and Lourdes in 2004 and 2005. Bonnie pursued such diverse interests as bagpipe playing, fashion photography and most recently was working towards the completion of a degree in Animal Science. She also loved reading historical accounts including the French Revolution, Russian Royal Families and Medieval Europe. A film aficionado, Bonnie enjoyed the works of Orson Welles, Bob Fosse and early Martin Scorsese. The beach and exercising were among her favorite past times. Most dear to her was the time she spent with her daughter, Muriel. Bonnie valued all life and was proud of her association with Woman to Woman Support Network, an organization helping young woman deal with pregnancy. She donated her time, material goods and during the late ?90?s wrote their monthly newsletter. Bonnie was a communicant of St Mary?s Church in Newport. She is survived by her daughter Muriel M. Urquhart of Newport, RI, her brothers John M. Panaggio and Andrew S. Panaggio of Middletown, RI, her sisters Susan E. Panaggio of Portsmouth, RI, Andrea Panaggio of West Windsor, NJ, and Carla Panaggio of Middletown, RI, and her Niece Kyla E. Burgess. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2006, at 8:00a.m., from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. in St. Marys Church, Spring Street, Newport.
