Bruce H. Smith, Sr

Portsmouth, RI - Bruce H. Smith, Sr., 69, of 119 Long Meadow Road, Portsmouth, RI, died Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of Shirley F. Jenkins Smith. Born in Portsmouth, RI on September 12, 1937, he was the son of the late William H. and Hope Sherman Smith.Mr. Smith retired after 21 years of service to Broward County School Board in Florida. He also worked for Pacific Oil in Tiverton for nearly 15 years. Mr. Smith enjoyed working with his hands and making things around the house. Bruce moved back to Portsmouth 3 years ago to spend more time with his family. He will be truly missed by all who knew him. Besides his loving wife of 44 years, he was a devoted father to his children Durant V. Sanders of Madisonville, TN, Alton R. Hummel of Port St. Lucie, FL, David E. Hummel of Portsmouth, RI, Bruce H. Smith, Jr. of Cooper City, FL, Donna J. Hummel of Newport, RI, and Judith D. Gautney of Portsmouth, RI, his brothers William Smith, Jr. and Rex Smith both of Florida, his sisters Gail Pluff of Florida, and Meredith Payne of Portsmouth, RI, nineteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and two on the way and one deceased grandchild. His services will be private.
