Carl R. Hernden

Carl R. Hernden, 70, of Harbor Village Drive, Middletown, passed away suddenly on Friday, May 22, 2009 at Newport Hospital.He was the husband of 18 years to Katharine M. Sheedy Hernden.Born in Detroit, MI on March 8, 1939, he was the son of the late Russell and Geraldine Meyer Hernden.Mr. Hernden was an employee for United Water working in landscaping and road assistance and formerly worked for City Hall of Newport as a custodian and maintenance/security. He was also a retired US Navy veteran of 20 years having served during the Vietnam War receiving numerous merit citations and commendations. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his son, Robert B. Eagle and his fianc, Nicole Lombard of Saco, ME. He was the father of the late Carl Louis Hernden.Carl was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to others. He was a hardworking man to whom his family always came first. He was always cheerful and loved his coffee and sweets. He will be missed by many.His funeral service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at 6 p.m. in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Calling Hours will be held Wednesday, May 27, 2009 from 4-6p.m. prior to the funeral service. Burial will be private.
