Carlton A. Sexton

SEVERNA PARK, Md. - Carlton A. Sexton,94, of Severna Park, Maryland, formerly of Middletown, Rhode Island, died on Saturday, January 2, 2010, at Seasons Hospice at Northwest Hospital, Randallstown, Maryland. Born on March 14, 1915 in Fall River, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Arthur and Ethel Waring Sexton. He graduated from Durfee High School in Fall River, Massachusetts in 1933.He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1943 to 1946, fighting in the Pacific Theater in New Guinea and Luzon. Mr. Sexton worked as a machinist at the Naval Underwater Systems Center in Newport, Rhode Island until 1943. Upon returning from WWII, he operated a watch repair business for many years, and he then returned to the Naval Underwater Systems Center, retiring in 1975 after 23 years of faithful service. He was an avid sailor throughout his life. After his retirement, he and his wife continued to enjoy sailing, including cruising the inland waterway and sailing to the Bahamas. They also traveled throughout the United States in their motor home. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Gladys M. Sexton and his sister Doris Krava and brother Donald Sexton.He is survived by a son Carlton A. Sexton, Jr. and his wife Susan of Pasadena, MD and a son Richard F. Sexton and his wife Mayte of Miami, FL; grandchildren Matthew Sexton, Elizabeth Sexton Fischbach and her husband Keith Fischbach, Michael Sexton and Richard Sexton; a great grandson Nathan Fischbach; and many nieces and nephews. Private burial will be in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, Rhode Island.
