Middletown, RI - Carmel M. Perry Parvo, 99, of 34 Underwood Lane, Middletown, RI, died Monday, March 9, 2009 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI.She was the wife of the late Joseph G. Parvo. Born in Newport, RI on February 8, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Amelia Augustus Perry.Mrs. Parvo was a communicant of Jesus Saviour Church. She was Past President of the Portuguese American State Civic League of Rhode Island and Past President of the Portuguese American Womens Civic League of Newport. Mrs. Parvo was Past Vice President of the Vasca da Gama and a member of the Rosary Sodality at Jesus Saviour Church. She was a volunteer at Forest Farm Nursing Home and Grand Islander Health Care Center. She is survived by her daughters Maryalice Russo and her husband William A. Russo of Middletown, RI and Carol P. Woods and her husband Edward H. Woods of Plymouth, MA, her grandchildren Cheryl Mello, Kathleen Squires, Susan Cooper Daigneault, Shelly Cooper Wenzel, Catherine Goeson, Sharon Ann Thomas, William A. Russo, III and Michael J. Russo, eighteen great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and grandson Ryan Astley who was sworn into the United States Army two days ago. She was the mother of the late Dorothy J. Mello and the sister of the late William J. Perry and Mary Tew. Her funeral will be held on Friday, March 13, 2009, at 8:00 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport.Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2003, from 4-7pm in the funeral home Donations in her memory may be made to the Vasco da Gama Holy Ghost Society, Fenner Avenue, Newport, RI 02840.
