Connors Funeral Home55 West Main RoadPortsmouth, RI401 683-2511Carmelita Margaret Knight Jennings Middletown, RI - Carmelita Margaret Knight Jennings, 84, of 11 Ann Court Middletown, formerly of Lebanon, MO and 36 Education Lane, Portsmouth, RI, died Monday, February 14, 2005 at home.She was the wife of Leroy Milton Jennings of Middletown. Born in East Chicago, IN on March 18, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret Mulkern Knight. Mrs. Jennings was a 1942 graduate of St. Catherine?s School of Nursing and continued her education throughout her career, receiving a BS Degree from Roger Williams College in 1976. In 1943 she was 1st Lt. Nurse in the United States Air Corps, during World War II. She worked as a nurse at St. Catherines Hospital, East Chicago, IN and in private duty, retiring in 1983. Mrs. Jennings worked from 1946 to 1953 at Cities Service Oil Refinery in East Chicago, IN, and from 1953 to 1973 at the Visiting Nurse Service in the Lake County Region in Indiana and Bristol County Visiting Nurse as a school county nurse in the Providence Area for 10 years, retiring in 1982. She was in the Third Order of the Carmelites. She was a member of the American Nurses Association, the Indiana State Nurses Association, the District Nurses Association, and the American Red Cross Nurses Service. She was a graduate of Catholic Central in East Chicago, IN, class of 1938. Besides her husband of 52 years, she is survived by two sons Joseph Jennings of Newport, RI, and John Jennings of Guilderland, NY, three daughters Mary Therese Jennings of Middletown, RI, Linda Pickering of Lebanon, MO, and Patricia E. Costakos of Middletown, RI, her sister Mary Rose Schreiber of Homewood, IL, nine grandchildren.She was the sister of the late Raymond Knight, Eugene Knight, Joseph Knight, Norbert Knight, James Knight, Patrick Knight and Alice Wargo.Her funeral will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2005, at 9:00AM, from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00AM, in St. Josephs Church, Broadway And Mann Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
