PORTSMOUTH, RI - Carmen John DUrso, of 125 Quaker Hill Lane, Portsmouth, RI formerly of 3106 East Main Road Portsmouth, died Monday September 26, 2005. He was the husband of Helen D?Urso of Portsmouth.Born in Brooklyn, NY on May 10, 1913, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Jacqueline D?Urso.Mr. D?Urso was a welder and a welding instructor. While serving in the US Navy during WWII he taught welding to enlisted men, and continued to teach welding after his service. After his retirement he moved to Portsmouth in 1974. He was a Fourth Degree and Past Grand Knight of the Portsmouth Knights of Columbus, a member of St. Anthonys Church, and the Order of Carmelites. Carmen was an avid tennis player and an active volunteer on the cable TV program ?Senior Journal? with his wife. Besides his wife of 59 years, he is survived by his sons Richard DUrso and wife Pauline of Portsmouth, RI, and Joseph DUrso of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, his daughter Francine Martin of Richmond, VA, and five grandchildren Dr. Lynette DUrso D.V.M., A.C.V.I.M. Cardiology, Brian DUrso Ph.D., Gregory DUrso, Richard Martin, and Christopher Martin.He is preceded in death by one sister. His funeral will be held Friday September 30, 2005 at 11:00am in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be at St.Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Thursday September 29, 2005 from 6-9pm in the Connors Funeral Home.
