Carmen Maria Morrone, 104, of Middletown formerly of 16C Coddington Street, Newport, died on Monday, April 13, 2015, at John Clarke Nursing Center.Born on December 16, 1910 in Newport, RI, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Loreta (Marcaccio) Morrone. Carmen attended Rogers High School and during WWII, she was employed at the former Torpedo Station. After the war, she was employed as a sales clerk and a buyer at the former King McLeod Co. and Ley's Century Store in Newport for thirty years, retiring in 1990. Carmen was an avid seamstress, knitter and crocheter. She was a communicant of St. Josephs Church and was a member of their Rosary Alter Society.She leaves her sister Clemence Bunch of LaJolla, CA, a niece Marilyn J. Gniadek and her husband Roger of Camden, DE, two nephews Paul Bunch and Carl Bunch both of LaJolla, CA and her cousin Jane Integlia Campbell of Newport, RI.Carmen was the sister of the late Evelyn V. Marcotte, Angelo Morrone, and Lena Morrone.Calling hours will be held on Thursday April 16, 2015 from 5-7pm in the Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway Newport.Her funeral will be held on Friday April 17, 2015 at 9am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport.Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery, Brown's Lane, Middletown.In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to St. Joseph's Church Restoration Fund, 5 Mann Avenue, Newport, RI 02840.
