Carole J. O'Hanley

December 21, 1939 — April 5, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Carole J. O'Hanley. She passed away peacefully listening to her favorite country song, "Take Me Home" surrounded by her family on April 5, 2025 at the age of 85.

Carole was born on December 21, 1939, in Toronto, Canada to William and Jayne McCauley. She was educated in Canada and graduated from Weller Business College. Upon graduation, she was employed as the secretary to Chairman of the Toronto Transit Commission.

Carole met her husband Donald aboard the California Zephyr in 1966. They were married on December 23, 1971. They started welcoming children in 1973 and didn't stop until 1980. Carole was an only child and always wanted a big family. She dedicated the early years of her life to her children. She baked a loaf of fresh bread every single day and tended to a garden the size of a small football field.

Carole embarked on a 28-year career with the Middletown Police Department as an administrative professional when her youngest child started school. She loved her time spent with the department and the relationships she made town wide during her time there.

Carole had a special affinity for music and spent many years as part of the choirs at both St. Anthony's and St. Lucy's Church singing and playing the guitar.

Carole never missed a summer Gull's baseball game, always seated steadfast behind her husband Donald who is also "The Voice of Gulls."

Carole was the embodiment of love, kindness and generosity. She devoted her life to her family and a menagerie of animals. Carole always had an open heart and opened the doors of her home to everyone. No matter the circumstances, Carole made every person who crossed her path feel like family. Nothing brought her more joy than feeding a crowd on Sunday evenings.

Her gentle spirit and unconditional love will be carried on through her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Carole is survived by her husband of 53 years, Donald, her five children, Meredith, Peter, Andrea (Rob), Heather (Greg) & Thomas. Fourteen grandchildren, Gage, Kyra, Julia, Luc, Cameron, Alice, Flynn, Harrison, Charlotte, Fox, Logan, Leo, Gregory, and John, and two great grandchildren, Talia and Theo. She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Jennifer O'Hanley

We would like to extend our deepest thanks and gratitude to Sharon Bird and the care team at John Clark Nursing and Rehabilitation.

A Mass to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, April 9th at 10 a.m. at St. Lucy's Church in Middletown, RI.

Carole will be laid to rest at St. Columba Catholic Cemetery in Middletown, RI.
