Carolyn M. Flood

Carolyn M. Flood, 99, of Portsmouth, formerly of Pawtucket, RI and Atria Aquidneck Place, Portsmouth, died Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at St. Clare Home Newport, RI. Born in Pawtucket, RI on March 10, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Mike and Nellie Swool.Carolyn was born and raised in Pawtucket, RI. As a young woman she worked in the textile mills, as did her siblings, to help support the family. She later began work at Almacs in Pawtucket, and continued there for many years. She lived in Pawtucket until she was 94 years old. Carolyn always enjoyed keeping her gardens at her home, cooking and sewing; but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially visits from the youngest while she lived at Atria Aquidneck Place. Her family wants to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Atria Aquidneck Place and St. Clare Home for their compassionate care over the last few years.She was married to the late Joseph F. Flood for 69 years. She is survived by her son Joseph J. Flood and his wife Jean of Portsmouth, RI, and a son William Flood and his wife Linda of Tampa, FL, a sister Stella Bednarz of Springfield, MA, and her grandchildren: Catherine and her husband Chuck Sala, Liz Bette, Trish and her husband Robert Seward, Karen Signore, and John and Cheri Flood; and her great grandchildren: Katelin and Kevin Sala, Annabelle and Caroline Seward, Matthew Signore and Sheridan and Paige FloodHer funeral will be held on Monday, January 6, at 10:00 AM in the St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Calling hours will be held Monday morning from 8:30-9:30am in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth.
