Catharine J. Moore, age 86, formerly of Middletown, RI, died peacefully at Southpointe Rehabilitation Center in Fall River on Thursday, September 10, 2015. The daughter of Charles W. Jeffers and Mildred Jeffers Dillon, Cathy was born December 19, 1928 in Wheeling, WV. She travelled with her family and settled as a teenager in Key West, FL, where she graduated from high school and met her future husband Charles Kittelle (Tim) Moore while attending Denison University. She served as a Navy wife and mother of five and moved her family 10 times, spanning both coasts, Japan, and Ireland before settling in Middletown.Upon retiring from the Navy, Cathy and Tim owned and operated Newport Plant and Garden on Bellevue Avenue where she became well known for her green thumb and friendly ways. They were both active in the Newport Navy Choristers and were renowned for their loving and comic duets. Music brought them to Trinity Church in Newport where Cathy also served on the vestry and volunteered in the church office. Cathys service extended to many years and friendships as a Meals on Wheels volunteer. She was a loving grandmother of six and a friend and mentor to many. In spite of her failing health, she retained the forthrightness, generosity, and sense of humor for which she was known and loved. She is survived by a daughter Rebecca Lougee and her husband Larry of New Hampton, NH; three sons, Charles Jeffers Moore and his wife Meryl of Portsmouth RI; Timothy K. Moore and his wife Mary Howard of Cambridge, MA; LCDR Adam J. Moore USN (ret) and his wife Lynn of Kalaheo, HI, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a large extended family. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Mark Whitley Moore in 1986.A memorial service in her memory will be held on September 29, at 11:00am, at Trinity Church, One Queen Anne Square, Newport, RI.
