Catherine Dorothy Butler Smith, 89, of 64 Riverside Street, Portsmouth, RI, died Thursday, December 28, 2006 at the home of her daughter Kathryn.She was the wife of the late Harold P. Smith.Born in Dorchester, MA, on January 15, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Thomas P. and Nora ONeil Butler.Mrs. Smith had worked as an office manager for the Portsmouth and Fire District for 30 years, retiring in 1990. She was a Communicant of St. Anthonys Church. Mrs. Smith enjoyed traveling with her husband during his naval career. She also enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family and grandchildren.She is survived by a daughter Kathryn D. Allen and her husband George A. of Portsmouth, RI, a grandson Dr. George P. Allen and his wife Mary Catherine Yurek of Portland, OR, a granddaughter Christina K. Richardson of Portsmouth, RI, a great granddaughter Taylor K. Richardson of Portsmouth, RI. She also leaves four nieces and two nephews; grandnieces and nephews as well as several old and dear friends. She leaves her devoted dog Pebbles.She was also the sister of the late Thomas Butler, Lawrence Butler, and Mary LaMacchia.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2007, 10:00 a.m. in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth.
