NEWPORT, RI ? Catherine ?Kay? M. Sullivan Martins, 92, of 113 Connection Street, Newport, RI, formerly of 41 Second Street 34 Atlantic Street, Newport, died on March 1, 2006, peacefully at home. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward C. Martins. They were married for 46 years. Born at home, on the Point on July 19, 1913, She was the daughter of the late John J. and Catherine M. ONeill Sullivan. Catherine was a life long Newport resident, residing for 43 years on the point before moving to the 5th ward. She was a life-long parishoner of St. Augustin?s Church and a member of the former St. Augustin?s Mothers Guild. Prior to her marriage, Catherine was employed for 20 years at the Newport Naval Torpedo Station on Goat Island as a piece worker. She was also employed by several Newport families as a private housekeeper and child care provider. Catherine participated for many years in the Annual Christmas Sales at St. Augustins. She was a volunteer charity collector for several national charity organizations. She was a devoted mother and assisted in her daughter?s Brownie, Girl Scout Troops and 4-H club. Catherine enjoyed cooking and baking, sharing with friends and neighbors. She enjoyed reading, apple picking, walking, camping and automobile travel with her family. She is survived by her daughter and son in-law Katherine P. Martins Charles V. Sandru of Newport, RI with whom she lived and received loving care. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces nephews. She was ?Grandma? to her Holly Polly the beagle. She was the sister of the late Cornelius S. Sullivan, John J. Sullivan, Thomas Q. Sullivan, Daniel J. Sullivan, Margaret L. Sullivan and Eileen J. Sullivan. Her funeral will be held on Monday, March 6, 2006, at 8:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00am in St. Augustins Church, Carroll Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
