Catherine Marie Galvin PORTSMOUTH, RI - Catherine Marie Galvin, 93, of Aquidneck Place, 125 Quaker Lane, Portsmouth, RI, and formerly of Blenhem Retirement Center, Middletown, RI, and of 48 Toppa Boulvard, Newport, RI, died Sunday, April 2, 2006 at Aquidneck Place, Portsmouth, RI. She was the wife of the late Thomas Patrick Galvin who died on December 2, 1971. Born in Newport, RI on July 24, 1912, she was the daughter of the late John Murphy and Margaret Lynch Murphy.Mrs. Galvin was a member for over 80 years of St. Josephs Church and a former active member of the St. Joseph Senior Citizens. Mrs Galvin was also a former member of the Edward King House. She enjoyed being with her family and friends at Hazard Beach Association on Ocean Avenue during the summer. She became an avid and proud quilter donating several to local charities. In her younger years she worked in the Court House, Newport and was one of Newport?s first female deputy sheriffs. She was a long term worker at the Newport Naval Base, Newport. She is survived by a son Dr. Thomas P. Galvin of Newport, RI, two daughters Ann Wagner of Ann Arbor, MI, and Ellen Galvin of Norfolk, MA, a sister Mary Ellis of Portsmouth, RI, and her grandchildren Patrick Galvin of Berkeley, CA, Timothy Galvin of San Diego, CA, Brendan Galvin of Cambridge, MA, Michael Galvin of Middletown, RI, Daniel Galvin of Menlo Park, CA, Sean Galvin of Newport, RI, Thomas Wagner and Nicole Wagner of Ann Arbor, MI, Lynn McConnell of Norfolk, MA, and Brian McConnell of Bensalem, PA, and a great granddaughter Casey Galvin of Berkeley, CA. She is preceded in death by a daughter Mary Ellen Galvin, her Brothers J. Quinlan Murphy and James Murphy, and her grandchildren Joseph Wagner and Ann Marie Wagner.Her funeral will be held on Thursday April 6, 2006, at 9:00 am from the Hambly Funeral Home, 30 Red Cross Avenue, Newport, RI, to St. Josephs Church at Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown, RI.Calling hours will be held in the Hambly Funeral Home, 30 Red Cross Avenue, Newport, RI, on Wednesday, April 5, 2006, from 4-7 pm Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
