Catherine Mary Gunning

Portsmouth, RI - Catherine Mary Hosking Gunning, 83, of 22 Sherman Avenue Portsmouth, died Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI. She was the wife of Robert F. Gunning of Portsmouth, RI whom she was married to for 62 years. Mrs. Gunning was born in Fall River, MA on September 15, 1920. She was the daughter of the late Alfred and Helena Downs Hosking. Mrs. Gunning was a member of Saint Barnabas Church and served on the Liturgy Committee. She was a former leader with Girl Scouts of America. Mrs. Gunning enjoyed her vegtable garden and playing the piano. Mrs. Gunning was an executive secretary for the former Cherry Webb in Fall River, MA and then she was the church organist at Saint Barnabas from its beginning until 1990. She was also the choir director at Saint Barnabas Church. She is survived by her husband Robert F. Gunning of Portsmouth, RI, her son Thomas P. Gunning of Portsmouth, RI, and her daughter Patricia C. Gunning of Acton, MA, She also leaves 2 grandchildren.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 12, 2004 at 10:00am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth.
