Catherine S. Brown

Middletown, RI - Catherine S. Brown, 91, of 14 Donald Drive, Middletown, died Saturday, December 25, 2004 at home. She was the wife of the late Colin F. Brown, Jr., CDR, Ret, U.S. Navy. Born in Utica, NY on October 10, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Emilio and Frances Basile Spagnola. Mrs. Brown was a teacher in Middletown and Newport elementary schools from 1968 until her retirement in 1978. She was a member of the NEA, a member of the Cluny School Parents Organization, and was one of the original donors of the Cluny School addition. A graduate of the George Washington University in Washington, D.C., Mrs. Brown worked for the U.S. Naval Department in Washington, D.C. during World War II. She pursued post graduate education studies at Columbia University, Brown University and other RI colleges. She is survived by a daughter Suzanne Pettit and her husband, William of Middletown, RI, a son Colin A. Brown and his wife, Barbara of Middletown, RI, and a daughter Katherine Brown and her partner, Josh Touster of Watertown, MA, a sister, Angela Tomaino of Utica, NY, a niece, Francine Broccoli, six grandchildren, Christopher, Andrew, Amory, Reily, Nathaniel and Sarah and her longtime canine companion, Lexie. She is preceded in death by her husband, Colin F. Brown, Jr., her brother, Anthony Spagnola, and her sister Sarah Frisillo.Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 28th, at 11:00 AM, from the Hambly Funeral Home Brick House, 30 Red Cross Avenue, Newport.
