Cdr. Francis Marion Meredith, Ret.

Middletown, RI ? Cdr. Francis Marion Meredith, USN, Ret. 70, of Porter Road, Middletown, RI, died Wednesday, February 14, 2007, at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of Ann Underwood Meredith. Born in Fairmont, WV on September 9, 1936 he was the son of the late Marion and Jane Clayton Meredith. Frank graduated from Fairmont High School in West Virginia, and entered the US Naval Academy in Annapolis. He graduated from Annapolis in 1959 and began a long career with the US Navy, serving as a submarine officer. After his retirement, he worked at NUWC in Newport, RI. Cdr. Meredith loved the sea and his country, and served his country as a true patriot. He is survived by his wife Ann Meredith of Middletown, RI, a son Thomas Meredith and his wife Tracy of Waterford, CT, a daughter Sheryl Meredith and her husband Thor Herdforth Madsen of San Francisco, CA, and step daughters Katherine Cole Fucile and her husband John Fucile of Webster, MN, Kristina Cole and her husband Peter Atsaves of Swarthmore, PA, and Stephanie Cole Kelly and her husband Patrick Kelly of Houston, TX, and ten grandchildren: Ellie and Jared, Finn, Alex and Katy, Evan, Noah and Annie, and Garrett and Meredith; a brother Thomas Meredith of Pennsylvania, and cousins Martha Meredith Eddy and her husband Don Eddy of Wheeling, WV, and Mark and Renee Eddy and their children Meredith and JD, also of West Virginia. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2007, at 10:30am in Calvary United Methodist Church, Turner and Wyatt Roads, Middletown. Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 23, 2007 from 5:00-7:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hasbro Childrens Hospital PO Box H, Providence, RI 02901-9979.
