Newport, RI - Charles A. Deveau, 69, of 12 Princeton Street, Newport, RI, died Thursday, March 1, 2007 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of Maria L. Escobar Silvia-Deveau and husband of the late Elizabeth Mason Deveau. Born in Newport, RI on December 10, 1937, he was the son of the late John and Adeline Huppee Deveau.Charlie was a lifelong resident of Newport. He was a graduate of Rogers High School. Mr. Deveau was a former member of the Rhode Island National Guard. He was an electrician for over 33 years for the School Department, retiring in 2002. Mr. Deveau was an active member of the RI Boy Scouts and of St. Joseph?s Church. Charlie loved nothing more than being with his grandchildren. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children David M. Deveau of Andros Island Bahamas, and Kathleen E. Rothstein and her husband Larry of Tiverton, RI, his stepson Andrew Silvia of Newport, RI, his siblings Leo Deveau and his wife Susan of Brownsville, TX, Robert Deveau and his wife Nettie of Winthrop, MA, and Joan Bruce of Muncie, PA, his grandchildren, Tyler Rothstein and Brittany Rothstein both of Tiverton, RI and Cassandra Deveau and Rebecca Deveau both of Cambridge, NY. He was the step father of the late A. D. Silvia III, the brother of the late Philip Deveau, Patricia Holmes, Elizabeth Perry, Mary Pinheiro and Olive Schmidt. His funeral will be held on Monday, March 5, 2007, at 8:00 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery in Portsmouth.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2007, from 2-4 and 7-9 in the funeral home. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Josephs Church, Building Fund, Mann, Avenue, Newport, RI 02840.
