Charles A. Liversedge, Sr

Newport, RI - Charles A. Liversedge, Sr., 87, of Hall Avenue, Newport, died on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at New Bedford Rehabilitation Hospital in New Bedford, MA.He was the husband of Mary Ann Ryan Liversedge.Born in Charleston, WV on November 13, 1922, he was the son of the late John James and Ophelia Cain Liversedge.Mr. Liversedge served in the United States Navy for 20 years and was a veteran of World War II and Korea. During his service, he served on many ships including the USS Yorktown in World War II. He later worked as a receiver for 25 years for the former Zayre Department Stores, retiring in 1988. He was an avid bowler.In addition to his wife of 63 years, he is survived by his sons, David Francis Liversedge of Fall River, MA, Charles Austin Liversedge, Jr. of North Attleboro, MA, and John James Liversedge and Richard Wayne Liversedge, both of Newport, RI; his sisters, Betty Lou Woody, Peggy Liversedge and Mary Ellen Liversedge, all of Charleston, WV and Bessie Alexander of Kinston, NC; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.He was the brother of the late John James Liversedge, Marion Liversedge, Robert Liversedge, Joseph Liversedge and Katherine Jacobs. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at 10 am in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Burial with Military Honors will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.Calling hours are omitted at the request of the family.
