Portsmouth, RI - Charles Frederick Martens, III, 49, of 22 Greenfield Avenue, Portsmouth, RI, died Sunday, January 13, 2008 in Miami, FL. He was the husband of Christine Wood Martens. Born in Newport, RI on June 29, 1958, he was the son of Catherine Russo Martens of Portsmouth, RI and the late Charles F. Martens, Jr.Chuck was a 1976 graduate of Rogers High School. He has worked for the past 5 years as the manager of North End Pizzeria. Chuck was on the Board of Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball in Portsmouth. He was a Pop Warner football coach for 10 years and also an assistant freshman football coach. Chuck was a member of Gridion Club for Portsmouth and was formerly on the Board of Pirates Soccer. Besides his wife of 18 years, and his mother, he is survived by his children, Michael Martens of Trumbull, CT, Joshua Martens of Trumbull, CT, Vanessa Martens of Portsmouth, RI, Charles Martens IV of Portsmouth, RI and Nicholas Martens of Portsmouth, RI, his brother, Gary Martens, his sisters, Diane Anderson and Marion Baird, all of Portsmouth, RI, and his granddaughter, Grace Martens. His funeral will be held on Monday, January 21, 2008 at 9:00 am from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth.Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 20, 2008 from 2-6 pm in the funeral home.
