Middletown, RI - Charles F. McGeown Jr. a man of great faith left his cherished JoAnn, who he started courting 61 years ago and continued throughout his life, finishing his journey to his heavenly Father on December 8, 2011.He died the same way he lived his life with dignity grace, held in the arms of JoAnn; within the exceptional care of the ICU Medical Team of Newport Hospital and surrounded in love, respect humor by his Golden Angels, daughters Sandy, Shawna, Annastacia Dyanna and granddaughter Kaienna. He was born on Aug 1, 1932 in No. Chelmsford, Massachusetts to Margaret McBrearty Charles F. McGeown Sr. of Ireland. He had four siblings; Agnes and John predeceased him and he is survived by sisters, Nan Maureen. He was known as the Yankee Baby, especially in Ireland, as he was the first born in America.A devout Catholic he was a faithful altar boy in his youth at St. Johns Church in No. Chelmsford. He attended Chelmsford Elementary school, onto Keith Academy continuing to Boston College where he graduated with a B.S.B.A. in Marketing. In 2004 Charles attained Golden Eagle status as a 50 year Alumnus of Boston College.During the Korean War he enlisted in the Army, serving with the 7th Cav Calvary, in Japan. Charles distinguished business career started upon his return from service, his first position was with Martin Marietta in Maryland. He later accepted a position at Raytheon Corp., Lowell, Mass.; followed by General Electric in Schenectady NY, where he worked under Admiral Rickover. In 1966 he returned to Raytheon Corp., Portsmouth, R.I. where Charles JoAnn settled in Middletown to raise their family. Charless stellar career with Raytheon lasted until his retirement in 1994. During his years with Raytheon he worked within the Norwood, Dighton and Marlboro divisions ending his career in Waltham, Mass.An avid golfer Charles served diligently on the Board of Governors at Wanumetonomy Golf Course, where he JoAnn are long time members. He proudly served as the Chairman of Finance Committee for AOH; ever in brotherhood he marched in the early 90s St.Paddys Day Parade during THE blizzard. Charles JoAnns marriage was a continuous adventure. Upon their retirement they continued with their world traveling. He was thrilled when they were invited to sit with the Reviewing Stand, at St. Patricks Cathedral NYC, for the St. Paddys Day Parade. When they visited the Blarney Stone in Ireland, Charles didnt kiss it as the Irish thought it would be redundant. They wintered in Naples, Florida and Hawaii, keeping them in the warmth and ocean year round. They lived their lives by the Irish Creed. Charles had gratitude to all the people, thru the many years, who enriched their lives. His presence filled a room and his smile brightened the day. Remember him for the twinkle in his eyes and his wonderful humor, as he laughed well often. He was born under a shinning star whose brightness never dimmed.Charles is survived by his beloved JoAnn and their children: Sandra McGeown, Shawna McGeown-Campion and husband David, Michael McGeown, Sharon McGeown-Holmes and husband Scott, Charles McGeown and his wife Maryrose, Annastacia McGeown and husband Michael de la Pena, Dyanna McGeown-Stankes and husband John. Their grandchildren: Lindsey McGeown, Richard Lauren Holmes, Charles Erynn McGeown, Garrett Campion and Kaienna de la Pena.
