Charles Jacob Wynperle, Jr., 86, of North Drive, Sunny Acres Portsmouth, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol, RI. He was the husband of Rose Botelho Wynperle. Born in New York, NY on April 4, 1916, he was the son of the late Charles J. Wynperle and the late Nellie Cornix Wynperle. Mr. Wynperle was a Life Member of the VFW-Newport Post and the Elks Club-Newport 104, a member of the American Legion of Newport and the Fleet Reserve Branch #19 in Newport. He was also a member of the Masonic Order in New York City, Polmonok Lodge. He was in the US Navy for over 20 years retiring in 1961. He later worked at the Navy Exchange Security Department until 1984. When he was in the Navy he was on a ship sailing into Pearle Harbor, Hawaii on the morning of December 7, 1941 during the Japanese attack. He is survived by his wife Rose B. Wynperle of Portsmouth, RI, a son Charles J. Wynperle, III of Dover, FL, a step daughter Barbara Lewis of Middletown, RI, and 2 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son Wilfred P. Wynperle, two stepsons Lt. Anthony Lewis, MPD, and Sgt. Frank J. Lewis, MPD, and a brother William Wynperle. His funeral will be held Friday, May 31, at 11:00 AM in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.
