Charles Robert Franklin

Charles Robert Franklin "Grandpa", 79 of 19 Chapel Street, Newport, formerly of Woonsocket, passed away October 31, 2012, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on May 4, 1933 in New Albany, IN, he was the son of the late Benjamin W. Franklin of Arizona and Ruby A. ( Rush) Franklin of Kentucky. Charles served in the US Navy in the 1950's and 1960s. He worked for Jim Holmes Upholstery and also for a repossession company in Woonsocket before retiring. He was an avid jazz listener, hand radio operator, painter, and he also enjoyed photography and fishing. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed the company of his friends.He is survived by four daughters Ruby A Franklin of Newport, RI, Beverly L. Franklin , Mary Ann Crook and son-in law Bradley J. Crook of Middletown RI, and his adopted daughter, Shirley Rose of Middletown, RI; two sisters, Mrs. Virginia Robinson and Mrs. Dora Thomas of New Albany, IN; his grandchildren of Newport RI, Danielle, Angelique, Marques Franklin, Milka, Ana and Jana Tolich, Elias Franklin of Lahoma, OK, Andre and Hanna Franklin of Harker Heights TX; his great-grandchildren, Daniel, Austin, Mikalya, Alore, Jasmine, Isabelle, Andre Jr., Bryon, Abgail, Elias Jr., Maximus and Gabriella Franklin; and many nieces and nephews.He is preceeded in death by his brothers, Marshall and George Franklin, his beloved daughter, Debra Lee Franklin, his grandsons, Bruce Maxwell and Sgt. Michael Timothy Franklin and his wife, Jessie Ann Franklin. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 2 pm in Donovan Manor, 19 Chapel Street, Newport, RI.
