Charles S. Smith

Charles S. Smith, 98, of Vernon Avenue, Newport, RI, died Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Newport Hospital.He was the husband of the late Betsy Pinto Smith.Born in Newport, RI on May 15, 1913, he was the son of the late William and Annie James Smith.Mr. Smith served in the United States Army during World War II. He worked for the Newport Sewer Department as a technician for 31 years retiring in 1975.He is survived by his children, Ann Perry and her husband, Tony, of Newport, RI, Ernest Smith and his wife, Debbie, of Middletown, RI, Daniel Smith and his wife, Kathleen, of NY, and Johnny Smith and his wife, Pauline, of PA; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Steven Smith, Charles Smith, Jr. and Edna Mundt and the brother of the late William Smith. Funeral services will be private.Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
