Portsmouth, - Charles Stoneman Smith Jr., 71, of 47 Sequoia Lane Portsmouth, died Saturday, February 7, 2004 at home. He was the husband of Beth Goodreau Smith. Born in Newport, RI on Oct. 24, 1932, he was the son of Charles Stoneman Smith Sr. of Newport and the late Elizabeth Pinto Smith. Mr. Smith worked as a chef at many local restaurants for more than 25 years before retiring in 1991.Mr. Smith was a Prisoner of War while serving with the US Army in Korea.He was a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church, Porstmouth and was a avid fisherman. Besides his wife and father, he is survived by Step Son Adam K. Carvara of Portsmouth, RI, Step Daughter Aimee B. Carvara of Portsmouth, RI, Brother Ernest P. Smith of Middletown, RI, Brother John Smith of Philadelphia, PA, Brother Daniel Smith of New York, Sister Edna Mustin of Little Rock, NY, Sister Anna Perry of Newport, RI, Four Step Grandchildren, and Several Nieces And Nephews.He was the brother of the late Stephen V. Smith. His funeral will be held private.
