Portsmouth, RI - Charles Ventura, 89, of 45 Reise Terrace, Portsmouth, RI, died Thursday, August 30, 2007, at home. He was the husband of Colleen Ventura.Born in Bristol, RI, on February 3, 1918, he was the son of the late Manuel and Hortense Mattos Ventura.A graduate of Bristol High School, Mr. Ventura was a veteran of WW II, having served in the U.S. Army as a radioman for the Armored Field Artillery in the Pacific Theatre. Following the war, he became an accountant in 1950, first with the Sealtest Dairies in Virginia, then with the RI State House after he moved back to RI in 1960. He enjoyed being a CB operator using the name ?Major?. After he retired from accounting in 1973, he became the custodian at St. Anthony?s Church for ten years, then the custodian at St. Philomena?s Convent for another ten years. He was a communicant of St. Anthony?s Church, and in his spare time he played the electric guitar with a local band for many years playing at various functions.Besides his wife of 59 years, he is survived by a daughter, Charleen OHara Perry, and son-in-law Daniel W. Perry, of Williamsburg, VA, a grandson Mark W. Perry, and his wife Jennifer, of Westfield, MA, a grandaughter Kristin O. Coia, and her husband Henry, of Redondo Beach, CA, and three great grandchildren, Taylor J. Perry of Westfield, MA, Austin W. Perry of Westfield, MA, and Henry Daniel Coia, III of Redondo Beach, CA. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at 9:00 AM from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held Tuesday, September 4 from 8:00 - 9:30 AM in the Connors Funeral Home.
