Charles Whalen Birdy Sr

Middletown, - Charles Whalen Birdy Sr., 91, of 10 Casey Drive, Middletown, died Friday, June 11, 2004, at the Forest Farm Health Care Center, Middletown, RI. He was the husband of Emma Deal Birdy. Born in Parkesburg, PA, on December 11, 1912.Mr. Birdy had served in the US Navy, for over 33 years, retiring in 1976. He was a Veteran of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Newport. He was a member of the Middletown Senior Citizens Center and the American Legion. Mr. Birdy was the founder of the Newport Stamp Club. He had just been voted poet of the year, for 2004-2005, by the International Society of Poetry. Besides his wife of 58 years, he is survived by two sons Barry Lee Birdy of Houston, TX, and Buzz Birdy of Middletown, RI, four daughters Marlys Swaby of Waterbury, CT, Nancy Brundage of Austin, TX, Lynne Faith of Palmdale, CA, and Niki Birdy of Waterbury, CT, 14 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 20, 2004, at 1:00PM in St. Peters Lutheran Church, 525 Broadway, Newport.
