Portsmouth, - Charlotte Elizabeth Holden, 93, of 51 Middle Road Portsmouth, formerly of Thurston Avenue, Newport, died Friday, January 31, 2003 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late Charles A. Holden. Born in Newport, RI on March 21, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Elizabeth Bliven Davis Dewick. Mrs. Holden will always be remembered as a wonderful cook. She worked at Mary Elizabeths Tea Room and also LaForge Restaurant for 13 years. Mrs. Holden and her sister Gladys owned and operated The Stone Mill Tea Room on Bellevue Avenue for many years. She also owned and operated Dewicks Little Store on Lincoln Street in Newport. She was a cook at the White Horse Tavern, the Shamrock Cliff and also the Officers Club. She and her late husband managed the Armbrust Motel for 10 years.Mrs. Holden also volunteered at the Newport Hospital for 10 years. She is survived by her son Robert E. Holden of Portsmouth, RI, 5 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren.She was the mother of the late Kenneth C. Holden and the sister of the late Louise Paul, Gladys Shea and Charles Dewick. Her funeral will be held Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at 11:00 AM in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will follow in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.
