Cheryl Gainer Schatmeyer

Middletown, RI - Cheryl Gainer Schatmeyer, 68, of Middletown, died Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Harry Schatmeyer Jr. Born in New York City, NY on February 26, 1945, she was the daughter of the late George and Lillian Sanders. Mrs. Schatmeyer earned a masters degree in nursing at the University of Virginia. She soon became the Director of Nursing at the Westchester County Medical Center in NY overseeing 1000 beds. She later became the Chief Operating Officer at the medical center and a commissioner in the NY State Health Department. After 28 years of service, Cheryl left for Newport, RI with her husband and purchased the Victorian Ladies Inn and later the Adele Turner Inn. She also served as president of NIBBS, the local bed and breakfast association. Cheryl loved to travel and was an ardent skier. Besides her husband of 11 years, she is survived by her 3 children, Harry Schatmeyer of Buffalo, NY, Simon Schatmeyer of Charleston, SC and Kirsten Schatmeyer Theodos of NYC and six grandchildren.Her services will be held on Wed Oct 9th at the Trinka Funeral Home in Maywood, NJ. Visiting hours will be from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. A service in Newport will be held later this month.
