Portsmouth, R.I. _ Christopher Anselm Taylor, 59, of 182 Armando Drive, died on April 4th at home following a thirteen month battle with brain cancer.Born March 3, 1953, in Newport, he was the son of Adelle Baker Taylor and the late Gerald Moran Taylor. Christophers accomplished career began in broadcast engineering and spanned a range of related fields culminating in the design and sales of major production and transmission equipment. He was a member of the Society for Motion Picture and Television Engineers SMPTE, as well as an active member and lobbyist with the Technical Emmy Committee. He traveled extensively and was involved in designing and installing transmitters located on the roof of the World Trade Towers in New York City.Chris had an incredible work ethic, joining the Hanley Sound Company at the age of 14 and spending summers coordinating sound equipment for several major concerts in the Northeast, including the Newport Jazz Festival and Newport Folk Festival. His first job was as an avionics engineer at Newport Air Park, where he developed a love of flying. He earned his private pilots license at the age of 18. Christopher, with no formal training in architecture or construction, designed and built his hilltop home in Portsmouth overlooking Narragansett Bay. He loved spending time with his family, traveling with his wife and riding his John Deere tractors up and down the hill in Portsmouth. He will be especially remembered for his outstanding sense of humor, his perennial optimism and tireless courage. Besides his mother, he leaves his beloved wife of 36 years, Natalie Almedia Taylor; a daughter, Kimberly Taylor Hirschfeld of New York, NY; and a son, Ryan Christopher Taylor of London, England. He also leaves a sister, Holly A. Taylor of Williamstown, MA; two brothers, Gerald M. Taylor Jr. of Middletown and Mark F. Taylor of Newtown, CT., a son-in-law, Jeffrey A. Hirschfeld of New York, NY. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 11th at 11am at Portsmouth Abbey Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Chris can be made to the Hope Lodge.
