Christopher Barker, 63, of Prairie Avenue, Newport, RI, died on Monday, March 18, 2013 at Newport Hospital.He was the husband of Mary Magee.Born in Newport, RI on July 25, 1949, he was the son of the late John and Dorothy (Harrington) Barker.Christopher was a graduate of Rogers High School and studied Architectural Engineering at Roger Williams University. He was a Cad Cam Operator and Draftsman at the former Syscon Corporation in Middletown for 10 years before retiring due to illness. Christopher was a US Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. A self taught oil painter, he also enjoyed music, philosophy, history, physics, the paranormal, reading, movies, collecting comic books and toy robots. Chris enjoyed nature, in particular Fort Adams, the Ocean Drive, and the Beach.In addition to his wife of 40 years, he is survived by his brother, John Barker, Jr. of Texas; and his two Siamese cats, Boo and Cleo.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at 9:30 am in St. Joseph Church, Broadway at Mann Avenue, Newport, RI.
