Claire Cecile Fay

Claire C. Fay, 87, of Bristol Ferry Road, Portsmouth, died Saturday, March 14, 2009 at St. Annes Hospital in Fall River, MA.Born in Quincy, MA on February 20, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Clarice Letourneau Fay.Ms. Fay graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Fall River and later earned her Bachelors Degree from Emmanuel College in Boston, MA and her Masters Degree from Barnard College in New York City. She began her career employed with the US Civil Service and traveled the world having lived in Okinawa, England, and Italy. She was later employed as an advisor to the foreign students at Fordham University, Barnard College and St. Francis University until her retirement.She was a communicant of St. Anthony Church in Portsmouth and was a member of the Portsmouth Historical Society. She is survived by her sister, Joan F. Powers of Portsmouth, RI; a nephew, Howard Powers and his wife Melody of Everett, WA; a nephew, Harry Powers of Stanwood, WA; a niece, Joy Williams and her husband John of North Attleboro, MA; a nephew, James Powers and his wife Brenda of East Brookfield, MA; a grand nephew, Anthony Powers and a grand niece, Marie Powers. Her funeral will be held Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 9 am from Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Anthony Church 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River, MA.Calling hours will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2009 from 6-8 pm in the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Portsmouth Public Library, 2658 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871 or to the Portsmouth Ambulance Fund, PO Box 806, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
