Claire Jane Baines

Newport, RI - Claire Jane Baines, 85, of 13 Fairview Avenue, Middletown, and formerly of Dudley Avenue, Middletown, and Aborn Street in Newport, passed away at her sons home surrounded by her family on Thursday, December 3, 2009.She was the wife of Wallace H. Baines. Born in Newport, RI on May 9, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Clara Deveau Saulnier. Mrs. Baines was active in the Senior Citizens Center in Middletown. She loved nothing more then spending time with and taking care of her family. Besides her husband of 68 years, she is survived by her son, Steven Baines of Middletown, RI, and Wallace Baines of Florida, her daughters Claire Clark of Florida and Linda Martin of Middletown, RI, her sisters Lillian DeAscentis of Oregon, Ethel Fullmer of Tacoma, WA and Pauline Hollandsworth of Caspar, WY, eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.She was the sister of the late Jeremiah Saulnier, Dorothy Richardson and Harriet Moffitt.Her funeral will be held on Monday, December 7, 2009, at 9:00am, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am, in St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport.Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on the morning of her service from 9:00 to 9:30 in the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 169 George Street, Pawtucket, RI, 02860.
